Match Report - Harrow v RIS

Score :   Harrow 0 - RIS 4
Date :   18 October 2006
Venue :   Huamark
Report :

The Accies feared an RIS explosion at the Huamark stadium yesterday. What they did not bargain for, though, was a 4 goal drumming by this fast influential attacking Thai side. Knowing full well this team had come second in the BPL last season Haughton put out a quite inexperienced side. Debutants abound, Haughton stuck to his game plan of pressing RIS from the off. The aging presence of Wise and Rock upfront gave the fans something to worry about. A 10- game goal drought, over 15 hours of football without finding the net, can break even the best of strikers. But these two rum buggers from up north were ready for the battle ahead. Haughton from the off pointed out their danger man No. 7, fast, athletic, it was he who opened the scoring, latching on to an exquisite through ball.1-0. In quick succession the Thais scored again from a corner, the Accies defence was no where to be seen, static, lifeless and the keeper pinned to his line. 2-0 Combining technique, power and sheer class it took the Accies only minutes to respond. Miles Lipscombe’s 20- metre diagonal pass appeared to be slightly overhit, as it flew over the RIS back line. Livesey, however, judged the drop and bounce of the ball brilliantly and managed to get behind it to rifle his shot into the bottom right hand corner……av it!!! 2-1 half time. Second half prevailed and the Accies team talk at half time went well. Williams and Livesey were ready to dominate the midfield while Lipscombe and Haughton ran the flanks. However, within a matter of minutes the dodgy back four seem to gift the Thai side two quick successive poor goals. 4-1 and a comeback looked out of the question. RIS were in control for long periods of the match and in the final ten minutes tempers started to fray. Steven Seagal “ I’m just a cook” would have been proud of Korn’s flying attack or was it handbags at two yards? The Harrow chef was duly shown the dreaded red card, while hitman Carter wanted a piece. Only the quick thinking of manager Haughton shouting “behave yourself son!” stopped the hardman from filling the stocky forward in. It was a pitiful ending to a woeful performance from the Accies and this episode well and truly summed up the night. To digress life is not all about winning, but in the words of George Best “ if we lose, we hit the booze,” and the Accies were happy to trudge across the road for a beverage or two. Let’s hope this article spurs us on for a better performance tonight……..otherwise we are going to lose quality players like Wise and Rock to other teams in the league. Av it!
