The Match We’d all been waiting for ……….
It was the match the Harrow Academicals had been waiting six months and 2400 seconds for. But with the opposition battling through the unusually heavy rain that falls in central Thailand’s wettest month and the traffic jams that the area rarely experiences, the Harrow Academicals were forced to endure a previously unheard of 40 minute pre-match warm up session that didn’t involve turning Keew’s car air conditioning off.
The game started at a nervous pace with both sides vying for possession. The Accies first chance came early on with a Rocky ‘Goldie’ Locks header cum GordOn right foot volley that was denied by the woodwork. The following ten minutes highlighted some good passing between the defence and the five-man-midfield but few balls made it through to The Rock Star and the Legendary Gerry Carter and to be honest, Harrow really didn’t capitalise on the two man advantage it had over RIS- maybe we had too much time on our hands?
Once the rest of the Ruamrudee team finally managed to find their way on to the pitch, the game became much more interesting for veteran Matt Riley and his team of defenders. Towards the end of the 35 minute half, a solid cross in from the right and a flurry of deflections finally led to a scrambled goal from RIS.
Half time score 1-0.
Spurred on by Riley’s inspirational half time talk, the Accies went out with renewed vigour. They knew time was of essence and badly needed a goal. This aim was soon met after a string of silky moves which began with a solid defensive tackle by eerrr Jon Corry, on to ‘oh my neck hurts’ Duncan, off the back of Keew’s head into the path of Max and then slotted in by Job to make it 1 all.
Now the Accies we’re really on fire and Job was having the time of his life. Young Pat in central midfield was making some useful in-roads via the Wise one and GordOn but despite the best intentions the ball was kept out by the Ruamrudee defence. The game ended with a ‘late’ RIS challenge that made the referee see red, but it was a well deserved 3 points to the Accies.
Final score 1-1
